Meet Dr. Tylka

Dr. Barbara Tylka is a highly trained eye doctor specializing in the treatment of eye disease and peri-operative care.  She treats patients with glaucoma, retinal disease, and infectious and inflammatory eye disorders.  She also sees patients in consultation for cataract and laser vision correction surgery and is involved with their post-operative care.

Dr. Tylka completed an additional year of specialized training after optometry school in Ocular Disease at the VA of Northern Indiana Health Care System in Fort Wayne, IN. She graduated Cum Laude from the Illinois College of Optometry in Chicago, Illinois where she gained experience in managing patients with glaucoma, retinal disease and treating various infectious and inflammatory diseases of the eye.  She completed clinical rotations at a variety of clinical sites in Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, and Wyoming. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana, IL in Molecular and Cellular Biology. 

Dr. Tylka is a member of the Illinois Optometric Association, American Academy of Optometry, The Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, American Optometric Student Association, Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Fraternity, Gold Key International Optometric Honor Society, and the Neuro Optometric Student Association. Along with multiple years of teaching experience, she has also contributed papers in optometric and ophthalmic medical journals. Dr. Tylka has also gone on mission trips to El-Salvador and Guatemala where she helped provide vision screenings and treatments to the under-served population. In addition to English, she also speaks Spanish and fluent Polish.

In her spare time Dr. Tylka enjoys traveling, skiing, hiking, shopping, and spending time with her family and friends. Dr. Tylka is a huge believer in life-long learning and is very passionate about all aspects of eye care. She and her husband Daniel are very excited to be part of the Rockford Eye & Laser Center family.
